Discord app’s compact new UI design has been criticized

Discord is one of the most popular tools for gamers to communicate with their friends via voice, text, and video.

The majority of the platform’s servers are private or invite-only spaces allowing people with similar interests to stay in touch with each other.

That said, Discord recently released an update for its Android users in which they overhauled some major visual features of the app.

New Discord app UI or compact design after v126.21 update

And now Discord users are reporting that they don’t like the new UI that brings compact design after v126.21 update on Android (1,2,3,4,5,6,seven).

Daily complaints about UI performance and quality after the update became common on Twitter. Many say that the whole app now feels sluggish.

General functions such as opening the emote menu delay the entire screen. New messages in a fierce chat (pop/jump) appear on the screen which makes reading extremely difficult.

There are also inconsistencies in the size of the text, as it is surprisingly large or small in some cases. Even the mute function on voice or video calls doesn’t seem faster as there also seems to be a delay.

@discord From the new Android Discord app, update new messages in a chat “pop”/”jump” fiercely on your screen, which makes reading extremely difficult and boring as everything changes in a very ad hoc and aggressive way. Where are the fluid movements? Hope this gets updated soon

@discord Recent mobile app updates are getting more and more intrusive. Please stop. You don’t need my contacts and I don’t need to be notified when a randy is streaming a game on a server I joined to be nice to the person who invited me. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Others are dissatisfied with the zoom in feature of the image viewer, especially when viewing vertical images.

Why is the mobile image viewer so terrible on this app?
Especially on vertical images it’s just awful you try to zoom in and for some reason it retains the original image frame size but only zooms into that area rather than just zooming in on it whole picture like all other mobile apps of the last decade. I don’t understand, what makes it so bad?

Discord users have taken to social media to criticize these UI changes as the Android app worked fine before this new update, but is now more compact and virtually unusable for some.

We hope the developers listen to the community and fix the issues as soon as possible. When they do, we’ll update this article to let you know, so stay tuned for more.
