Generac PWRcell batteries will provide grid capability for APS

Generac Grid Services, a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems, signed a multi-year contract with Arizona Public Service (APS) to provide additional grid capacity from residential battery storage systems. Agreement leverages Generac Grid Services’ Concerto Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) to provide both requested capacity, as well as Advanced Grid Services (AGS), including voltage management , real power orchestration, fleet energy control and targeted responses.

In turn, this partnership will also help increase the presence of Generac’s PWRcell battery systems to supply power to the grid. Learn more about the present/future of battery storage as a network capability in our Request and Response feature.

This solution is part of APS’ Distributed Demand-Side Resource (DDSR) aggregation tariff, which encourages customers to install smart technologies, such as Generac PWRcell, as well as other energy-efficient products.

Generac Grid Services was the only bidder to supply all of the products requested under the tariff. Concerto from Generac Grid Services will be used to deliver capacity, demand response, and load shifting resources, as well as more advanced DERMS use cases, including location value, voltage and power support. other ancillary network services.

“APS is excited to work with companies like Generac Grid Services to connect residential customers with smart home batteries capable of delivering reliable power and strengthening the APS grid,” said Kerri Carnes, chief customer technology officer at Arizona. Public Service. “Customer engagement is the centerpiece of all of our programs, and it’s just one more way we partner with our customers to maintain service reliability and maximize the clean energy benefits of solar systems.” storage in our service territory.”

As the chosen contractor, Generac Grid Services will begin aggregating residential power from Generac PWRcell batteries over a 5-year term, beginning in January 2023. Aggregated power will support both system-wide capacity via demand response events, as well as location capability. on departures from the target system. The battery network may also be able to provide additional services to the network when otherwise available.

“In addition to providing a DERMS software solution, Generac Grid Services is proud to have been selected to provide customer acquisition, program management, and measurement and verification services,” said Aaron Jagdfeld, president and chief of Generac management. “By providing an end-to-end solution, we will support demand-side distributed resources throughout its lifecycle, helping APS when power consumption is highest.”

Generac Grid Services will leverage its extensive dealer network to identify and recruit residential customers to participate in the DDSR aggregation tariff. Under program parameters, customers will continue to have access to backup power in the event of an outage and participation will not reduce the resilience of their batteries. Customers are further incentivized to participate, along with the inherent benefits of a Generac PWRcell system, including outage protection, energy storage, and year-round clean energy.

Have you checked out our YouTube page?

We have a ton of video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power forward! — a collaboration with BayWa re to discuss high-level industry topics as well as best practices/trends for running a solar business today.

Our longer side project is Field — in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technology and ideas so you don’t have to. We discussed everything from residential trackless bridge attachment and home solar financing at large scale energy storage value stacking and new utility house solar micro-grids + storage.

We also publish our Project of the year ads there! Interviews with this year’s winners will begin the week of November 8. Go ahead and subscribe today to stay up to date with all that extra stuff.
