Honda Compact SUV coming next year, based on Amaze’s platform

Honda’s compact SUV is expected to be based on the same platform as the Amaze; probably powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine and a 1.5 liter diesel engine

Reports circulating on the internet suggest that an all-new compact SUV from Honda will be launched in India in the second half of the next calendar year. It will directly compete against Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and others in a highly competitive space.

It is believed that the development of the SUV under four meters is well and truly underway. The design could be influenced by the latest Honda SUVs, including the BR-V, and it will likely be rolled out from the brand’s production facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Like its competitors, the Japanese car major could target large volumes in overseas markets through exports.

The next compact SUV will replace the WR-V, which in turn is based on the Jazz. The fourth generation Honda City, WR-V and Jazz are also expected to be discontinued in the near future. It would be based on the same architecture as the successful Amaze compact sedan and powertrain options could also be shared.

Currently, the Amaze gets its power from the 1.2-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine. The former could also benefit from a hybrid boost for better fuel efficiency. Considering that the i-VTEC and i-DTEC units are already capable of good mileage, Honda could please a wide range of customers with the upcoming model.

It is not yet known whether the same power and torque figures of both powertrains will be used in the compact SUV or not. The chances of gasoline and diesel engines getting a CVT automatic transmission are high. The diesel engine could be more powerful compared to the same unit in the Amaze.

It should be noted that Honda also seems to be working on an all-new midsize SUV for India and it could hit showrooms in late 2024. The Honda compact SUV could come with the latest connectivity features, safety, entertainment and convenience. .
